What is Pilates?

The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) to provide harmony and vitality to the body through mindful exercise incorporating mat work and specialized equipment with spring resistance. The exercises lead to longer, leaner muscles and improved posture, balance and coordination. Regular Pilates workouts will increase spinal mobility and strengthen the core abdominal, back and gluteal muscles that support the spine. Pilates also addresses orthopedic concerns, chronic pain and osteoporosis and is appropriate therapy for spinal disc injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation and pregnancy. Your workouts will leave you feeling refreshed, invigorated and elongated. Ongoing practice will enhance your energy, improve your overall quality of life, and increase your awareness and understanding of your body and self.
